I previously worked for the Canadian Home Builders’ Association for 6 months before heading to graduate school. In this short amount of time, I loved working with the team and focusing on increasing the RenoMark Program’s social media presence, developing resources for Canadian professional renovators and writing blog content.

  • Basements are often blank canvases that can be adapted to meet your needs. If you’re considering a basement renovation, here are some ideas to get you started designing a space that is not only functional, but fabulous!

Give your hobbies the space they deserve

Home renovations are about truly making the space yours. Working with a full service renovator to ensure the design supports your hobbies will achieve exactly that. Do you like refurbishing vintage bikes? Customize a home bike shop with creative wall storage. Are you into acrobatic yoga with hanging silk? Install a hanging set-up and padded flooring. Do you have an epic comic book collection? Create a custom display, shelving, and a cozy reading nook. Are you an aspiring musician? Installing sound absorbing or sound-proof systems will let you jam out for hours without bothering anyone. The options are endless.

  • As warmer weather approaches, you’ll likely be in and out of your garage more than usual. You may be grabbing sports equipment, reaching for gardening supplies, tackling a DIY project, or packing up the car for a beach vacation. Whatever the occasion, an organized and efficient garage makes life run smoother.

However, for many of us the garage becomes a disorganized accumulation of stuff and doesn’t meet our needs. It doesn’t have to be that way! With some thoughtful changes, or even an entire garage renovation, you can unlock the potential of this underrated space.

“There is a lot of stress in life, and your garage shouldn’t be one of the sources,” says Reilly Novak from Novak Contracting & Construction Ltd. in Surrey, British Columbia. In this article, Novak shares some helpful advice for things to consider when renovating your garage for improved functionality.

  • You’ve heard of spring cleaning, but what about spring renovating? Here is a list of home renovation projects that will maximize storage and combat clutter in a way no deep clean could do alone! By implementing a thoughtful and customized renovation project, you’ll enjoy a more organized home all year round.

    Prioritize a permanent home office

Sure, make-shift home office spaces were great when we thought the pandemic was temporary. But if you’re now permanently working from home – even part-time – you will benefit from a designated space to get work done every day. Not only will you be less likely to take over the dining room table (or ironing board if you prefer a standing desk), and more likely to stay organized, but having a dedicated work zone will help you mentally disconnect at the end of your workday.

Whether you’re building an extension to create more space, redesigning a spare room, or transforming a nook for clever office space, a professional renovator can help your vision come to life.

  • No gray area here! Black and white is a classic pairing that transcends time. If you are looking to add drama, elegance, and flair to your space, look no further. We’ve curated a wide range of ideas from recently renovated homes that will show you how to use black and white in your home design or renovation.

    Achieve a High-Class Look with a High-Contrast Kitchen

While all-white kitchen design has been trending for the past few years, adding black into an airy white kitchen can bring a sense of luxury to everyday meal preparation. In addition to being elegant, high-contrast design is great for people with low contrast vision. If you’re looking to warm up the space, consider gold hardware and fixtures, or incorporating wood, either in the flooring, floating shelves, a custom range hood, or a statement hutch.
