Laura O'Grady is thrilled to have recently returned to graduate school to receive her Master of Arts in Exhibition and Experience Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She is flexing her storytelling, 3D rendering and graphic design skills in this program. Learn more about her program here.
Prior to pursuing design she received a BAH in Political Studies and Global Development from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She worked part-time as a freelance graphic designer and photographer throughout her degree. Since graduating, Laura worked in communications at educational institutions and non-profits in hopes of merging her creative skills with her desire to build community and advocate on topics like climate change, youth empowerment and housing affordability.
However, Laura was itching to continue learning and find a career in an industry that celebrates big ideas, is people-oriented and can have a positive impact. She began taking courses toward a 3D Design Certificate at Emily Carr University, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Laura used these learnings to apply for the Master's program for Exhibition and Experience Design at FIT. Laura is looking forward to working on interdisciplinary exhibitions and multi-sensory experiences in the future with like-minded creatives, just like those a part of the SEGD community.
In her free time, Laura enjoys planning elaborately themed parties for her friends, racing around the city on her bike and searching for NYC's best burrito (so far Ursula's breakfast burritos in Brooklyn are in the lead).
